Boat Anchor Winches
Navigating BC’s deep coves or holding firm in a ripping tide that requires reliable gear. Manual anchoring is back-breaking and unsafe when solo. Our collection of electric boat anchor winches provides the push-button power to anchor safely and quickly. From tangle-free drum winches for fishing to heavy-duty capstans for trap pulling, Poco Marine has the systems engineered for BC’s saltwater environment.
(more...) Best for Tangle-Free Operation. Drum winches spool the entire rode (rope and chain) onto a large drum. This contrasts with capstan winches, which feed the rode into an anchor locker. Drum winches are excellent for boats with shallow or non-existent anchor lockers, but require more deck space. A windlass uses a toothed ‘gypsy’ to feed the rode into your anchor locker. An electric winch uses a 12V motor to power gears, which rotate a drum or a gypsy to manage the rode. The core components are the electric motor (power), the gear train (force), and the drum or gypsy (rope), all of which are operated by a switch. Rinse the winch with fresh water after use and check for corrosion regularly. Choose a winch with pull power at least three times your ground tackle weight. Yes, if misused. Run the main engine while retrieving the anchor, allowing the alternator to replenish the battery during periods of heavy demand. Why Upgrade Your Anchor Winch?
